After graduating cum laude with a degree in Physics from the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, in 2001 Mr. Sica completed a Master’s in Business Administration at the Luiss Guido Carli University in Rome.
His professional career has mainly focused on Investment Banking, M&A, Capital planning and IPO. After a brief experience in JP Morgan, he joined Bain&Company, where from November 2002 to April 2003 he worked on optimising the distribution network of leading Italian banks. In August 2003, he joined Morgan Stanley as Capital Market specialist for Financial Institutions, taking on positions of increasing responsibility which eventually led to his appointment as Managing Director Financial Institutions Group – Responsible for FIG Italy.
Working between London and Milan, over the years he has been involved in a number of complex transactions including a EUR 413 million liability management transaction for Unicredit, the accelerated placement of shares in Bank Pekao on behalf of Unicredit, where Morgan Stanley acted as lead left joint bookrunner for a value of EUR 748 million, and the creation of Banca Unica with the merger of 7 network banks into UBI Banca.
As of September 2020, he serves as Chief Financial Officer of Banca MPS, with the aim of optimising return on invested capital and profitability growth over time, while ensuring the proper allocation and absorption of capital among the different Business Units, monitoring the appropriate level of capitalisation and overseeing the Group’s Finance, Treasury and Capital Management. He is also responsible for budget and planning in the corresponding units of the main Subsidiaries (MPS Group Operating Consortium, MPS Capital Services, MPS Leasing & Factoring, Widiba).
Currently, Mr. Sica is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of AXA MPS Assicurazioni Danni SpA, Chairman of the Board of Directors of AXA MPS Assicurazioni Vita SpA and a member of the Board of Directors of MPS Capital Services SpA.
