Corrado Passera

Corrado Passera has served as an independent Director on the Board of Directors of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena S.p.A. since 15 April 2026. Within the Board, he is also a member of the Nomination Committee.

He has held senior leadership positions in both private and public sector organisations and has also served as a Minister of the Italian Republic.

Since 2018, he has been Chair of the Accademia Internazionale di Imola “Incontri col Maestro” Foundation (ETS) and, since 2019, Chair of the Euducation Foundation. 

In 2018, he founded Illimity, a technology-driven banking group dedicated to serving small and medium-sized enterprises, and served as its Chief Executive Officer until 2025, when the bank was acquired by Banca Ifis. 

From 2011 to 2013, he served as Minister for Economic Development and for Infrastructure and Transport, focusing on the liberalisation of the gas, retail and credit markets, the development of infrastructure projects, and the introduction of legislation supporting innovative start-ups.

From 2002 to 2011, he first served as Chief Executive Officer of IntesaBci, a position he held until 2006, when Banca Intesa merged with Sanpaolo IMI. From 2007 to 2011, he was Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of the Intesa Sanpaolo Group, where he also promoted corporate social responsibility initiatives and established Banca Prossima in 2007, a bank dedicated to the third sector and social enterprises. 
From 1998 to 2002, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Poste Italiane, leading a major operational and cultural transformation of the company.

From 1996 to 1998, he was Chief Executive Officer and General Manager of Banco Ambroveneto, which, following its integration with Cariplo in 1997, became Banca Intesa. 

From 1992 to 1996, he served as Co-Chief Executive Officer of the Olivetti Group during the company's transition from mechanical engineering and information technology to ICT.

Between 1990 and 1992, he gained significant experience in the publishing sector, first as General Manager of the Mondadori Group (1990–1991) and subsequently as Deputy Chairperson and Chief Executive Officer of the L’Espresso–La Repubblica Publishing Group (1991–1992). 

From 1988 to 1990, he was General Manager of CIR S.p.A.

From1980 to 1985, he was Senior Engagement Manager of McKinsey & Co. 

He has also held numerous non-executive positions in Italy and abroad, including as a member of the Board of Directors of Finmeccanica and Crédit Agricole (Paris); a member of the Executive Committee of the Italian Banking Association (ABI); a member of the International Business Council and the Global Agenda Councils of the World Economic Forum; a member of the International Advisory Council of McKinsey &Co; a member of the Board of Directors of Teatro alla Scala and Bocconi University; a member of the Board of the International Institute of Finance (Washington, D.C.) and the International Advisory Board of the Wharton School (Philadelphia) and the Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa; and Deputy Chair of Assonime.

In 2010, together with Umberto Eco, he co-founded Encyclomedia Publishers, with the aim of creating the first digital History of European Civilisation, a project that was also presented at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

In 2006, he was awarded the title of Cavaliere del Lavoro by the President of the Italian Republic. In 2000, he was named Bocconiano of the Year. 

Mr. Passera’s educational background includes a Classical High School Diploma, a Degree in Business Administration from Bocconi University in Milan, and a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He has also been awarded an Honorary Degree in Management Engineering from the Polytechnic of Bari and an Honorary Master's Degree in International Business from the MIB School of Management in Trieste.
